We wait until we think it is the perfect place and perfect time before
we sit and spend time with God. We think if I just finish this or complete
that, then I will start a good habit of quiet time. I am here to tell you; the
time is NOW and the place is HERE! We will never find that perfect place and
time every day. God is here right now waiting on us wherever we are both literally
and figuratively and He wants to have a closer relationship with us. We may
have a relationship with Him that is like the cashier at the grocery store I
see each week. We speak politely to each other and ask how the other is doing,
but we do not have a REAL relationship.
A real relationship takes time and effort. We have twenty fours in a day
and most of us are lucky if we spend ten minutes with the God who created the heaven
and earth. Sure, we might send those "popcorn" prayers up quickly
during the day, but what are we doing about studying His word? What are we
doing with the lessons we learn? Do we tell ourselves it's just too hard and
God understands? He does not understand! He wants to know why we let every
little thing in our life come before Him, the God who has stood by our side
every day of our life. The God who has
held our hand when we were all alone. He
wants our time and attention. He wants us
to study His Word, so we will know Him intimately.
I am sorry if I am stepping on your toes, but I am also talking to
myself. OK, I am really not exactly sorry. God has been laying this burden on
my heart about trying to encourage others to spend more time with Him both in
prayer and in His Word. He has been telling me this for months but I am like
everyone else. I am waiting for the perfect time to begin. He has given me . .
. let's call it a "vision", even thou I do not like that term about
what He wants me to do. I have been procrastinating, blaming it on one thing or
another, waiting for the right time. So if I am stepping on your toes, I am
stomping on my own.
Someone said today that they want to be that person that is so in love
with God, that they annoy others because they are so on fire for God. I hope
one day someone says I am that person. When I am spending time with God and am
the closest to Him I feel what the writer said in Psalms.
Psalms 42:1-2
As the deer pants for streams of water, so
my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God, When
can I go and meet with God?
When I am being diligent and focused on God, it is just like the
psalmist's comparison; I feel my soul is so parched and the only thing that
will quench it, is to spend time with God and His Word. I look forward to the
time when I am just alone with God and enjoying reading and studying His Word.
Are you struggling with overcoming sin in your life, whether small or
large? Are you having a hard time forgiving someone or letting go of a hurt?
Are you having trouble hearing what God is telling you? It is time to recognize where we are and what we
need to do. We need to reflect
and refocus. Refocus on the God we love! Now
is the time! Do not wait another minute. Stop making excuses! Believe that with
God's help you can do it! Commit to making God a priority in your life and do
whatever it takes! Ask yourself, "Are you willing to do whatever it takes
to make God your priority?" Answer honestly. You may think it is a big
secret but it is not because your actions speak louder than words. Do not wait, now is the time!
